Now that Spring Break is over, many families in the Sacramento and Bay Area regions have set their sights on summer.

School is almost over, the weather is warming up, and we bet you’re ready to dive into some good ole summer fun! If so, then we have some great ideas for you to start planning and preparing your adventures, relaxation, and memory-making experiences. As long-time residents of this area, we know Northern California has a lot to offer when it comes to recreation, vacation, and family fun, and we want to help you set yourself up for a summer your family will never forget. Let’s dive in!

Tip #1: Plan Vacations Now

If you’re thinking about going on any summertime trips, the time to plan and get organized is now. There are two reasons for this. The first is that lodging in popular vacation spots, as well as campsites, can fill up fast. If you want to be able to pick your preferences when it comes to things like room size, price, location, and amenities, you should get in early. The second reason is purely psychological; having a trip planned gives you and your family something to look forward to and get excited about! Show your kids pictures of the places you’ll be visiting and create dinner conversation about all the fun things you’ll get to do on your trip.

Tip #2: Celebrate the Last Day of School

Get your family excited about the start of summer by kicking it off with an end-of-the-school-year celebration! Pinterest is full of great ideas for gift baskets and buckets to greet your kids with as they come home from their last day (think water guns, summer drinks, and pool toys). If you’re not the crafty type, you can simply mark the occasion by going out for a special treat (ice cream sundae, anyone?) or preparing a special meal. Whatever you decide to do, your family will be sure to remember and cherish their “kick off the summer” celebration for years to come. And who knows - it may become an annual tradition.

Tip #3: Schedule Some Fun Into Every Week

Teach your kids to cook and bring some family fun into the kitchen by making every Monday “Meal Monday,” where you come together to cook something new. There’s also “Water Wednesday,” where you head to the pool, splash pad, or local lake to indulge in some sun and swimming. “Fun Friday” is when you do whatever brings your family joy, like board games, a picnic in the park, roller skating, the video arcade - whatever you feel like! Don’t feel pressured to make every day a big event, but try to incorporate some fun into every week to stave off boredom and rack up the summer memories.

Whatever summer 2025 has in store for you, we know that by incorporating these tips into your planning, you’ll be sure to make it a season your family will never forget. Remember to snap lots of pictures! And, as always, if you’re looking for a home base for all of your summer adventures, the team at Simple Real Estate is happy to help!
